My Acne Journey

My struggle with acne hasn't been a quiet one - with the absence of blogs etc through the worst of it in my teenage years, I didn't really talk about it. This was more so fuelled by the fact that I wanted to hide in embarrassment for most of 2006-2008. I've since shared my scarring journey with you.
And now my acne has returned. Although not as bad as it once was as a teenager, it's vicious. Large, extremely painful bumps have appeared all over my cheeks, chin and jawline. I'm fed up and feeling down. The most recent addition is an extremely painful and large lump on my lip. The doctor has referred me for a second course of roaccutane, which I'm praying is the answer. I feel as though I've tried everything, but I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible. Meanwhile I'm back on the pill, which my GP hopes might help. I'm praying in the meantime that I don't get more scarring. My little niece, who is just shy of two years old even pointed out that my face was "sore". God bless her. I feel too old for this now and am so fed up. Has anybody else suffered with adult acne? I came off the pill in March as I wasn't entirely happy with and it seems to have flared up since then, but most recently in the last month. Need any advice and support that you can give me...

I will be blogging my experience as much as possible! I have a few friends on roaccutane at the moment and will definitely try to get their opinions too...

  1. Make sure your makeup doesn't have bismuth oxychloride in as this made my skin terrible. Please Google if you haven't done already. I realised after many years after finally using bare minerals and is very high in the foundation. When I've looked back at old foundations and powders that caused break outs and read ingredient lists bismuth oxychloride is in them all. I now use smashbox and have had loads of blue light and chemical peels and my skin hardly breaks out anymore.

  3. Hi, I'm 29 years old and still suffer from acne which started at the age of around 13/14 or basically as soon as my period started. I had a particularly nasty flare up in September 2015 which has seen me having to go back on the pill and also on Roaccuate. Sadly this is my fourth round of Roaccutane, my first course starting when I was 18. It just seems to be my only solution as no amount of drinking water, cutting back on sugary foods or skincare routine seemed to make any difference. After my last round of Roaccutane my skin had been reasonably clear for around 18 months but suddenly became incredibly oily. I was even get acne on my chest, back and all on the sides of my face and under my jaw where I'd never had it before. This made me so stressed and upset it became a vicious cycle. I'd wake up every day not knowing what was a new spot or an old one. My skin has now cleared up so much on the medication but is incredibly scarred, lots of red flat marks and I complete the course in just under two weeks. I'm absolutely terrified it's going to return again and pray my dermatologist can give me a good routine to follow. How are you getting on now?
